Paintball August 24, 2008

I went for a BTO course for paintball today. BTO stands for Basic Tornament Orientation. However, the bigger question here is what is Paintball in Mandarin. A bit of search on the Net tells me that its – 匹特摶 (Mandarin: pi3 te4 bo2)

Direct translation with the sound in English. No real meaning in Mandarin it seems.

I have played a few recreational games previously. To make paintball fun, one will really need proper gear. 2 things that are a must have (IMO) will be pants and shoes (or boots). It will make running and hiding in bunkers much much easier.

If nothing else, if you sucks at it, at least make sure you look good at it.

I cant imagine the pain if one is really having paint ball splatter all over them with this little clothes on.

I caught this on youtube.  Its an old clip.  And I hope they have improved on their staff training to better handle the PA system.

Ok…Err….Alright….Alright….You can…errr….alright…Ok…Alright…

It is not the fault of the lady announcer.  It is the fault of the cheapo SMRT who do not give proper training to the staff.

Chinatown August 21, 2008

Where is Chinatown in Singapore?  Well, traditionally it was where the CBD starts at North Bridge Road (there abouts) to Tanjong Pagar.  Chinese businesses spread between ‘big road, second road, third road, fourth road….’

Officially, it has been narrowed down to Eu Tong Sen Road between South Bridge Road and People Park.

You can see it on this map:

But that is just the official designation.  If you will refer to the upper right hand side of the map, you will notice the area shaded with Geylang.

Have you even been there lately?  Well, culturally…that is the new chinatown.

The Message 2008 August 19, 2008

If you switch on your tv last evening, there is only one program to watch.  Unless you have cable.

The speech told us that this year is bad, not because its our fault but because all around us is bad.  So we kenna also.  The garment has done a lot, its just that we do not know about.

They have gave out lots of money:

-  Like the $300 plus per person for the destitute.  (A lot of money lor, thats 2 plates of chicken rice a day with coffee shop made barley water…of course, if you have 31 days in the month, you will have to diet)

-  Like the $3,000 plus per baby.  (A lot of money lor, compared to the $300,000 you need to bring up the child)

So its a ‘Sing our own praises’ message.  Understandable.  Everyone does it, why not us?

Then there are the marriage and birth rate issues.  Basically, garment is going to increase maternity leave and paternity leave (to garment related organizations) and hopefully, the private sectors (where like the majority of the workforce is in) to follow.  Its not mandate, its just voluntary.  Yes, garment did a lot to promote welfare to encourage child birth.  Lip exercise.

Googling Person August 19, 2008

Well, we used Google or some form of search engines a lot these days.  Wikipedia is sure a good source of information (sometimes bad, but mostly good).  Dun believe everything you read though.  We need to decide for ourselves what is to believe or what is not to believe.

This morning over the radio, I heard that there is a survey of 17% men have google on their ex-girlfriends.  Well, have you ever google yourself before and see what comes up?  Its pretty interesting.  You almost feel being violated in some sense.  We are the ONE, isn’t it?  How can there be other things that exist?  Sometimes, we do funny things to ourselves.

In another piece of funny, I was going through Internet and I found a lady naming herself ‘Swallow Gao’.  I am sure that she want to be imagine as Swallow the bird…but…. Hahahahaha… I know I know…I am so mean.

This should be the name of the sporting meet this year at Beijing.  Every media seem to be just excited about his records breaking and total medal tally.  Nothing else matter.

Someone else matters if you can answer one of the following questions

-  who are the other three swimmers who won the relay (ANY RELAY) with Phelps?

-  name 3 persons in the gymnastic team of any country.

-  who are the winners for the diving competition?

Dun get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for this dude.  But its just that the media frenzy is crazy.  Media are getting stupid these days.  Or at least they assume their viewers are.

The Men bashing continues August 14, 2008

So the newspaper want to continue its bashing on Men.

I am so freaking tired of it.  The PM recently said this about marriage and low birth rate:

To secure our long-term future, we also need enough babies to replace ourselves.  Year by year, fewer Singaporeans are getting married, and those who do are having fewer children.  We have implemented one measure after another over the years, but we have not succeeded in reversing the trend.

We have to take this very seriously.  Marriage and parenthood are personal decisions.  But we can create an environment where Singaporeans see them as a natural and important part of life, and where young couples get support in starting families.  We have looked at this comprehensively and will take further steps to address the practical problems which couples face.  I hope more Singaporeans will find fulfilment in bringing up children and setting up a happy family.  Let us make Singapore a good home where citizens lead full, meaningful lives, and experience the joys of bringing up a new generation.

So we are supposed to change our (individual’s) mindset about being a good father.  And FEEL the fulfilment of bringing up children because the garment has done all that they could in terms of measures over the years.

What a load of Bull.

Check out this website:  MOM

See..firstly, the name is female orientated.  If you check out the link, see the Children Development Co-Savings section… it does NOT contain a PATERNITY section!!

We should have a Men Charter for the modern society.
