Put a moment aside.  Think of a love one.

Today will be a good day.  Or it will be a bad day.  It is up to you.  If someone love you, they will love you.  If they do not, then nothing you can do will make them love you.  People move apart.  Sometimes, they just do not want to put in the effort anymore.  It happens.  Nothing we can do can change another person’s mind.  We just have to know that we need to move on.  We need to be strong for ourselves.  Everyone loves a champion.  People who want to leave will not like a weakling.

Terminator salivation May 31, 2009

Caught T:S over the weekend.  It is a good movie.  Acting was good.  Casting was good.  Storyline is so so but the pace was good.  It did not waste too much time on mushy romance side of the whole movie.

One must suspend all knowledge of the previous terminator movies and series to make this one a good movie.  If you are going to start making references, there are lots that does not make sense.

A number of things that I did not like.

1)  They jumble up all the different models of the terminators.  There is no clear timeline of when each model is produced.  Kyle should be a full grown man when the T100 is just got ready.

2) If the terminators are powered by nuclear battery, why didn’t it go off when Arnie in T2 went into boiling molten metal.  (Ok, this is not about this movie)

3) John Connor is made a prophet before he did anything.  He should win some battles and lead the resistance.  Not as a DJ broadcasting his blog.

The Miracle cure May 27, 2009

In a comment by a friend today, I was reminded of this phrase that I used to say.  Death is a miracle cure to every thing.

Even things that need no curing that is.  We probably know how tough life can be.  We do not know what is install for us in death.  Maybe something or maybe nothing.  It really doesnt matter.  All it matters is that we need to choose which side we want to be on.

When some people say how they wish they were dead, I generally encourage them to just die.  If thats their wish, why dissuade them?  Just let them die.  I admit that I may miss them.  But I will not feel sorry that they kill themselves because I choose not to do anything for them.  Hey…they choose to kill themselves.

If they cannot see past their immediate problems or how wonderful life is, then their cure is death.

NTU lecturer being attacked May 25, 2009

In the recent case where the professor was being attacked, the court case is being reviewed now.

So far, the newspaper has been reporting that the lecturer was being attacked from behind and the student seem to have problems with school work.

My questions are:

- Why is the lecturer having his back facing the student?

-  Should he not have the courtesy of looking in the eyes of the student while discussing the assignment with the student?

If the lecturer agreed to a meeting, he should have the basic courtesy of making sure that he took the time with his full attention.  Not some half fark effort.  He can tell the student that the assignment should be printed out for discussion and not just with a thumbdrive, dismissed him and continued with what he was busy with.

I remembered my own schooling days when every semester, my academic adviser needs to discuss the workload and the number of courses we are allowed to enroll in.  My advisor has no less than 50 students in each level to see.  They took their time to talk to us between their lectures.

The lecturer should not be attacked in such a manner.  Nothing warrants that kind of reaction.  But lecturers should be mindful of the stress that their students face.  As a lecturer, he should have better manners than having his back facing the students when having a discussion with them.  All in all, the lecturer has failed.

Dating 101: Guys Who Don’t Get the 2nd Date May 22, 2009

I am too lazy to blog these few weeks. But here is an article that is pretty funny to read.

DATING TIPS
Dating 101: Guys Who Don’t Get the 2nd Date

Dating study reveals a surprising trend in the type of single men that fail to entice women to continue courtship
By dating coach Rachel Greenwald

“It’s a cat and mouse game; puppy dogs don’t win.” Let me explain.
As a dating coach and matchmaker, I’ve spent the past 10 years conducting some unconventional dating research using a business concept called “Exit Interviews.” While earning my MBA degree at Harvard Business School, I learned how candid exit interviews from an employee leaving his company can reveal crucial feedback, empowering managers to get something right next time with future clients and employees. So I thought: why not try this tactic in the dating world?

The Dating Poll
In one poll, I asked over 100 single women to confess the real reasons they didn’t accept a second date with a man. My goal was to help men discover simple mistakes or misperceptions which they could adjust next time with someone new. The women I interviewed came from 23 states and 6 countries, with ages ranging from 21 to 68. Five top reasons emerged strong and consistent, but what was the number-one turnoff? Did it have something to do with the shortcomings of the bad boys, men afraid of commitment, or guys who were too short, bald, potbellied, or unemployed? Not at all. Here, single women define the men they dated who don’t make it for a second round of courtship.

The Puppy Dog
Betsy, a 50-year-old lawyer in Seattle, mused about a guy she dated who reminded her of that “Sex and the City” episode when Carrie was dating Aidan and complained about how he was too available: He didn’t do the ever-seductive withholding dance or make her stomach flip. Betsy admitted, “The early stage of dating is just one big game, whether we like it or not. It’s a cat and mouse game; puppy dogs don’t win.”

The Incessant Flatterer
Emily, a 39-year-old writer from Boston, said about one man, “Eagerness can be flattering, but this felt a little desperate… it became annoying. Also, because it was a first date, [I think] it had more to do with a fantasy about me, than me.” Hillary, a 35-year-old magazine editor from New York, NY, remarked, “I went out with him in the first place because he was so complimentary to me. I thought I should give him a chance. Normally I like a man who doesn’t play games, but the flattery really became overkill.” Karen, a 28-year-old health care consultant in Madison, WI, sighed, “He looked like a sad puppy when I said goodnight.”

The Edgeless Man
Women complained in droves about single men who reminded them of puppies. These guys followed them around and were too eager to please. Men who were “too nice” often appeared desperate or weak. They didn’t have an “edge.” And their “gushing” early emails with excessive flattery were a turnoff.

The Over-Gusher
Liz, a 41-year-old language translator from Sherman Oaks, CA, told me about the guy who sent such effusive emails after they met that she “was disappointed to receive them.” She said, “I wanted the polite, even enthusiastic thank-you along with a compliment or two, but not the over-gush. I guess I wanted him to maintain a little mystery.” Jenna, a 33-year-old graphic designer in Miami, FL, commented: “He was too nice, too transparent… he didn’t intrigue me.”

The Sweetie
Emma, a 25-year-old advertising associate in London, described a guy she could have “walked all over.” And Shannon, a 38-year-old accountant from Cincinnati, remembered declining a third date with a too-nice guy who came to her office after she got promoted. He spent hours organizing her files and brought her an expensive “congratulations” plant. She said, “He was so good on paper, and I guess I’d call him ’sweet,’ but he didn’t have an edge.”

Do Nice Guys Finish Last?
As these confessions poured in, I worried whether the old adage “Nice guys finish last” could actually be true. I hoped not, because I personally love “nice guys” (I even married one! And after 16 happy years, let me offer this endorsement: nice guys are the only ones who stand the test of time). But as I spoke to women in more detail, they clarified what they really meant, and I felt reassured. It’s not that women don’t want a “nice guy” (they absolutely do when they are in a marriage-minded mode!), but rather guys should simply monitor the quantity of their effusive compliments and sweet gestures. Like most things in life, a little bit of a good thing goes a long way, but too much is overwhelming and usually a turnoff.

A Tom Hank movie May 18, 2009

Caught the Angels and Demons movie yesterday. If you have not read the book, well…you should. Its a much better version.

It is difficult not to compare the movie to the book. Given the time limit of being a movie, the suspense thriller that it meant to be, lost a lot of the science vs religion theme. The reference to how the clues tied to the existing architecture in Vatican City are also missing. Lots of things went unexplained. This probably has to do with being politically correct.

Also, the suspense is not there. Other than Tom Hanks, the other characters are just too drama. The characters are not very well explained.

I will suggest catching the movie if you are a Tom Hanks fan. Not if you are a Dan Brown’s book fan.

There are no updates recently coz I am too busy to write. Things are moving along fine in many areas. Some inconveniences came up recently but those are resolved pretty quickly.

Mothers’ day came and went on Sunday. Did you know that Mothers’ day is celebrated on different days in different part of the world? In any case, this is another one of those days that I really do not give a damn about. Its a commercial event. I did borrow it to have lunch with my Milly who is caring for my son. But its purely coincidental.

Local radio program is going down the drain. If Brainless Dum Peemale is not your cup of tea, how about Dead Mate? One is a showcase of bimbotic acts of supposedly harmless fun and the other is the showcase of someone gutless to express their love interest but brave enough to let their underwear out over national radio.

More news is on our infamous Toilet Break drama serial. Part 2 is featuring the Police Break into the residence of the Protagonist. How interestingly boring. For all we know, there is still no evidence that he did anything of criminal intent. All we hear is information without real evidence. You say I must believe lor.

Homeless Korean dies with 100,000 dollars in bank
AFP
AFP – Wednesday, May 6

SEOUL (AFP) – - A homeless South Korean unable to withdraw his life savings because he could not remember his real name has died in poverty, officials said.

The man, believed to be aged 56, died of cancer last month, leaving 128 million won (just over 100,000 dollars) in a bank account that was opened in early 1993 under the alias of Na Hae-Dong.

The account was frozen several months later when a law took effect to ban accounts held under false names, as an anti-corruption measure.

Deposits were still allowed but the account holder had to register a real name to withdraw money, something “Na” could not do.

“He didn’t know what his real name was or where he was born. We tried but failed to identify him,” Yoo Joon-Soo, the senior official of Yongbong district in the southwestern city of Gwangju, told AFP by phone.

The man collected scrap iron and other junk and slept on his cart under plastic sheets before moving in 2007 into a makeshift shelter made from a shipping container.

Though he could not withdraw from the account, he kept putting in savings.

“He used to say he wanted to buy a home with his savings,” Yoo said.

“Last month, we applied for court approval to create his new ID and the court procedure was under way.”

A local court is expected to order that the savings revert to the state, he added.

Aware of the reality May 3, 2009

The latest drama of a female group named Aware came to an unexpected twist. The new committee resigned. But there is a possibility of a future episode as the expense account in the past 1 month when the new committee was in, they over spent the funds allowable under their constitutions. So if the viewership remains high…watch out for the next episode of Aware: The court of war.

Newsworthiness. What’s more news worthy than a bunch of cat fights? Call it the graduate series. The only thing missing is a Mud pool.

Between this and the Renci case, we could have the best reality television series. It will trump over Survivor and The Amazing Race without question.
