The what Sports meet….at where? July 2, 2009

People must realize by now that we live in a place where result counts.  Or should I say visible results.  We can work our ass-es off and there is no visible results, then the only good thing left for our ass-es is to get screwed.

We got to organize the world first youth sports competition.  We got some foreign consultants to advise us on the organizing, marketing and promotion aspect of the competition.  So we started advertising that we are organizing this event.  We met with the challenge of the H1N1 influenza.  We hosted many youth atlethes and gave them world class hostel accomodation (that can put some 4 star hotels to shame).  We have a secured environment (no riots, no demo, no one snatching the torches during relays).  We are the first and we are the best.  We got it on our report card now.

Ok…great.  While sports are a test of physical strength, it is not the economics of it.  We have spent how much of the tax payers money to get this organize?  What is the results of it?  Just to get this on our report card?

I have learnt that the foreign consultants advised that we should mint coins for the event.  Just like the China Olympics.  The only thing is…who would buy?  The mint company would not even take them on unless they commissioned the job by themselves.

The organizing committee did a great job in organizing the sports meet.  But they did not do anything at all to promote it.  They do not realize that the people are not interested in this thing.  People with only passing interest need to search very hard to find information on the schedule and venues.  People in the audience stand are mostly staff, parents and friends.  There are no real audience who are interested in those sports.  And that, to me, is a total failure.

So what do I know about it?

-  I know that there is some torch relay last week (After it happened, coz I watched the news).

-  I know that some teams are found to be affected by H1N1 virus (After it happened, coz I watched the news)

-  I know our football team was totally devastated (After it happened, coz I watched the news)

-  I know that we won a medal in bowling (After it happened, coz I watched the news)

Hmm..it will be good to know when and where events are happening.  Not that I will go.  Coz I have to work.  The garment did not do enough to support this.

As I heard on the radio, the organizing committee did not do a good job.  Schools are in session and adults are working.  Who will be there to support games that happened in the middle of the day?  I am sure not going to take leave to watch some half grown whelps playing on a field.  (Even though they will kick my ass if I compete against them).
