F1 Weekend September 28, 2009

I decided to avoid the Marina Square area this year altogether. No point in squeezing with the people and fighting with traffic, especially with the baby around. So I decided to watch it over television. The race was very interesting this year. Besides the ability of the driver, the race showed that race strategy of each team is very important. Luck plays a small role.

I had been to the F1 race in Singapore last year. As I observed around (which I posted), there are many things to improve. Hopefully, they have done it. I have yet to check with my friends who went.

So I had the news on last evening after the F1 race. As expected, F1 is all over the news. One particular interview caught my attention. Its the one that done with some organizer from the Youth Olympic Committee. His comment was that there was basically very little to be learnt from the F1 race as they are different type of sports. What bullshit? This guy is even in the organizing committee? Firstly, you need to be humble. If you have very little to learn, you keep your mouth shut and move on. There is no need to display such arrogance. Now, we shall see how well the Youth Olympic does.

I believe that this dude is missing the whole picture. He is probably focusing on the race itself. And surprise surprise, the reporter did not seem to catch anything unusual. The reporter did not feel that there is a need to create any sensational. In fact, I think the reporter is what I will call ‘a dead fish’. No feeling at all. But I digress. This dude probably did not understand the logistics. He was there and he viewed the race. He may even be there to see the set up and the crowd management. So how can he have such arrogance? No idea.

Here we have a sporting event which people pay good money for to enter and walk around. The festive mood that is created at the entrance, the management of F&B facilities (which was flawed last season imo), the restrooms allocation & the franchise merchandising (where the money is). Also, learning from what this race lacked. Maybe about the information. Ok, it is not fair for me to say since I was not there this year. Maybe this year, they have information on LED boards to show the timing. But from the local channel, you can see the lack of experience and information as compared to the cabled host.

Come the YO, I am sure there are a lot of events. Like the Asian games, where does a average citizen goes to get this information?

Why are we always putting people with arrogance and no ideas in position to organize things?

I was kidding around with my wife during her pregnancy that what if she gets conceived again while she is pregnant. I was told that it is a silly thought.

Well, here’s the news. A woman in the USA is found to have conceived a second baby about 2.5 weeks after her first baby was conceived. This means that the 2 babies are not twins. The process is known as Superfetation. So….the babies are super twins?

‘It is extremely rare.’

Here’s a recent video clip on how abusive that a woman can get.

This is wrong because:
1) It happened in public.
2) There is nothing much a guy can do to prevent this from a girlfriend/spouse.

Some said that this is a ‘planned’ campaign. If it is, its pretty sick. But it hits a nerve that is so exposed that most of us simply shrug.

The women folks are so protected that there is nothing we can do to stop this kind of abuse. Some people argue that perhaps this guy has done something wrong like commit adultery and so on.

I find that ridiculous. Do you mean that if I find that a woman is misbehaving, I have the right to take it out on her physically in the public?

As a guy, I would never allow this to happen. But how would we stop this?

Two options:
- Slap the girl right back & hit her between her legs (it will hurt too, u know).
- Walk away.

But hitting her back will just land me (as a guy) in deeper shit in the legal world. Given that this guy has no idea that this video is taken, how is he going to convince the police that he is the one who is being abused?

Walking away is another option. But it just does not solve the problem.

I know of a friend who has physically abused the spouse. The only thing that I have said to this friend is ‘Do not ever let me see you doing that with my own eyes.’. There is nothing else I can do. The spouse has continuously gone back to the relationship. I was even being scolded for being a busybody by the receiving party when I tried to stop the fight when I first saw it happened. My belief is just that the couple can do whatever they want behind closed doors.

Been in a few ‘I am tired of how my life is now, and I want to change it’ conversation lately. The surprising thing is that these conversations are held with people whom I have always known to have control over what they do. I guessed we are human after all. Everyone has our own moments of weakness. And sometimes, we just want to talk to someone to realign our thinking.

Talking about being down recently, over the past week, I have had a bad cold. I am almost recovered now. I am going around with a mask. You will be surprised how many people will look your way and then go out of their way to avoid you when you have your mask on. I think I may just buy myself ample supply of mask just in case I need to go Orchard to shop. Personally, I hate crowds. I avoid crowded places since I was a kid.

Yesterday, during mahjong with my wives’ colleagues, I was asked ‘Why do men become unromantic after marriage?’. I was never really a romantic. I do not know. But I do know that I will be playful in my relationship. There are so many responsibilities to see to. I can almost see how those responsibilities can bog down a person sense of romance.

To each, his own. I guess.

Weekend is coming up. Its scary. I have so much to do. Weekend is more scary than weekdays.

Oh..ya. The doggies are back home with us now. Noodlez and Chewie are both adapting well. Noodlez seem to be more independant now. That is good I suppose. Sometimes, its hard to let go. But thats another story for another time.

Final thoughts of this post. Remember those who lost to the mindless event on a fine September morning of recent past.

Years ago, when a person would share a stage with a legendary musician, thats all it takes for things to come together for them.  However, with the world changing to what it is today.  Musicians are not a natural occurance anymore.  Not that it ever was..just that its not so artificial as it is today.

I was just browsing through Youtube when I found this 2004 video of Amy Belle singing with Rod Stewart.

But who is Amy Belle?

In summary, she is busking in Glasgow when discovered.  Here’s the story if you are interested.

You cannot miss them if you ever step foot into Sim Lim Square.  They are the most displayed video around the shops there.
